Minimum credentials required are an ASN degree with at least 2yearexperience and at least 1 year in a longterm care facility, as well as a certification of completion of the IDOH approved training program. This certification is attached for this nurse.
This is a qualified medication aide (QMA) program to serve Indiana's long-term care facilities (LTC). This is an occupation where there is always need for more staffing. QMA's are trained to know medications, intended actions of medication, and adverse responses of medications. After didactic, practicum, and state exam, they may pass medications in LTC under direction of an RN or LPN. The didactic hour requirement is 60 hrs and practicum hour requirement is 40 hr. The practicum is completed after didactic is complete. Classes are offered at this location twice yearly, spring and fall and schedule can be found at the entity's website. Classes are generally in evenings from 1430-1830 twice weekly, to accomodate the student's need to work.
This course is taught according to ISDH course requirements for QMA, which requires the applicant to have worked as a certified nurse's aide in IN for a minimum of 1,000 hours in the past consecutive 24 months. The student must have a high school diploma or equivalant also. A copy of limited criminal history is required, as well as 2-step tuberculin skin test, and pre-work physical. These may be obtained from the student's current workplace, if applicable.
Deadlines are typically 2 weeks prior to class beginning. Two classes per year are offered by this entity- spring and fall.
