This course provides opportunity for students to gain stackable credentials as Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist. This course prepares clinical medical assistant students to be multi-skilled allied health professionals specifically trained in administrative, laboratory and clinical procedures for the duties of a medical assistant in doctors’ clinics and hospitals. Students will learn clinical procedures including administering medications, performing an electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and maintaining a clean clinical environment. Clinical Medical assistants perform routine clinical tasks to keep the medical offices running efficiently. Clinical duties may include taking medical histories of patients, recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures, preparing patients for a variety of medical procedures, and assisting the physician with routine office procedures. The second component in this program is Phlebotomy Technician which prepares students to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will review blood collection, the skills needed to perform venipunctures and other collection techniques. Phlebotomist play an important role in the healthcare field. Obtaining an accurate specimen to ensure quality results for the diagnosis process is integral in the healthcare field. Phlebotomist are tasked with this important task. This course includes terminology, blood collection procedures, order of draw and other topics. Classroom and lab work include terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice, and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods. Upon course completion, students will be prepared to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Exam. The Course Length is 9 weeks online or in-class with mandatory in-person hands-on skills sessions. The third component of the CMA Technologist program is the electronic Health Record Specialist course. The Electronic Health Records Specialist Certification (CEHRS) is often combined with other NHA credentials to expand an employee's skill set, making them a valuable asset to their employers. This course is part of the Jeremi College CMA Technologist program. Some common responsibilities tied to electronic health records include: Auditing patient records for compliance, abstracting clinical information for reports, performing basic coding to submit reimbursement claims, Processing Release of Information (ROI) requests for medical records, reviewing patient demographic and insurance information, Discussing patient information with physicians and insurance professionals. In today’s technology-centered healthcare system, electronic health records (EHR) systems are critical to patient care. This course will train studentsto use EHR systems and prepare themto pass the NHA Electronic Health Records (CEHR) certification exam. Upon completion of the course , students can take theNHA exam andbecome Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS).
