A qualified full-time faculty member meets the education component of the School of Technology discipline standard through one of three routes:
This Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) provides training along with hands-on experience in machine repair, including bench work, preventative maintenance, lubrication and hydraulics, and rigging. Once accepted into the program, trainees shall receive continuous safety instruction throughout all phases.
Total training time shall be a minimum of 7400 hours on the job training plus a minimum of 576 contact hours. Schooling must be completed before a journeyperson card is issued. Required classes and class schedule will be determined by the Joint Skilled Trades Committee in accordance with the guidelines of the Office of Apprenticeship (OA), U.S. Department of Labor.
School attendance is mandatory and a C average in each class is required.

The apprentice opening is posted throughout the Haynes International plant on company bulletin boards. All employees are encouraged to apply. Those that apply take four different tests administered by Ivy Tech Community College. Each applicant that completes the tests are scheduled for an interview conducted by the ‘Skilled Trades Committee’. Each applicant receives points for the interview, work history, high school or trade schools transcripts and test scores.
