A.S. degree in healthcare or related field, LPN, or Certification in related field.

Program Description:

Prepares medical assistant students to perform patient clinical skills in the medical office setting. Students perform clinical procedures including administering medications, assisting with minor surgery, performing an electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and maintaining clinical equipment in an ambulatory care setting.

51.0801 Medical/Clinical Assistant A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians, to provide medical office administrative services and perform clinical duties including patient intake and care, routine diagnostic and recording procedures, pre-examination and examination assistance, and the administration of medications and first aid. Includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology; medical terminology; medical law and ethics; patient psychology and communications; medical office procedures; and clinical diagnostic, examination, testing, and treatment procedures.

Prerequisites Description:

High School dipolma or GED. Will also allow those students working on GED to enroll. Must complete GED before end of course.The student can sit for the certification exam without a GED but it will be provisional until the student gets the GED.
