Program Purpose This certificate program equips students with the practical skills, knowledge, and clinical exposure needed to perform blood specimen collection safely and accurately. Graduates are prepared to work in healthcare settings including mobile services, clinics, labs, or in-home care setups.
What Students Will Learn
Anatomy & physiology relevant to veins, capillaries, and blood collection.
Medical terminology, infection control, universal precautions, and safety protocols.
Techniques for venipuncture (using various devices: needle, butterfly), capillary (finger/heel stick) collections.
Proper specimen labeling, handling, storage, transportation, and processing.
Patient interaction: identification, consent, comforting techniques, addressing complications.
Professional behavior, confidentiality (e.g. HIPAA), ethics in phlebotomy.
Structure / Components
Classroom instruction for theory and technique.
Hands-on lab practice with mannequins and peers.
Clinical or externship component to gain real experience drawing blood under supervision.
Assessments: written & practical exams.
Outcomes
Certificate of completion.
Preparedness for national certification exams as a Phlebotomy Technician.
Eligibility for employment in roles such as mobile phlebotomy, lab draw stations, hospital/lab units.
