Qualifications of Instructors:

American Welding Society Certification AND

Meets the technical course standard through one of four routes:

Meets the full-time faculty discipline standard;

Possesses a Department of Labor, Bureau for Apprenticeship Training recognized journeyman’s card in the discipline directly related to credentials, certifications, and competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and in journeyman status for two years or more with experience that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and?

Possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR);?or??

Possesses any specialized certifications or credentials required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and?

5 years directly related work experience in the field that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR);?or

Possesses a current Workplace Specialist License, Technology Education License (Technology and Engineering Education, Engineering and Technology Education), or CTE: Trade & Industrial Engineer or Manufacturing License granted by the Indiana Department of Education appropriate to course objectives and directly linked to credentials, certifications, and competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and

Possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR).

Program Description:

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), commonly known as MIG welding. It includes safety procedures, welding equipment setup, metal preparation, and welding techniques. Considers various gas metal welding (GMAW) processes including micro wire, flux-core, inner shield, and submerged arc with emphasis on metal inert gas welding. Techniques of welding in all positions on various thicknesses metal. Provides advanced skills and fundamental knowledge in Gas metal Arc Welding. This course is designed for beginning welders, fabricators and those seeking welder certification. Emphasizes safe practices in Gas metal Arc Welding. In addition, this course will prepare students to take nationally recognized AWS 3G certification exam(s).

In partnership with the Skill Pointe Foundation, this class is offered to eligible students for a reduced price (a scholarship offsets $2500 of this course, regularly priced at $3500).

48.0508 Welding Technology/Welder A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to join or cut metal surfaces. Includes instruction in arc welding, resistance welding, brazing and soldering, cutting, high-energy beam welding and cutting, solid state welding, ferrous and non-ferrous materials, oxidation-reduction reactions, welding metallurgy, welding processes and heat treating, structural design, safety, and applicable codes and standards.
