Ivy Tech will be teaching to the 160 Driving Academy standards using curriculum supplied by J.J. Keller. Topics covered will include Control Systems, Vehicle Systems, Vehicle Inspection, Shifting, Backing, Coupling and Uncoupling, Visual Search, Communication, Speed Management, Space Management, Night Driving, Extreme Driving Conditions, Hazard Perception, Railroad Crossings, Emergency Maneuvers, Skid Control & Recovery, Special Rigs, Preventive Maintenance, Handling Cargo, Cargo Documentation Hours of Service, International Driving, Trip Planning, Accident Procedures, Personal Health and Safety and Basic Business Practices for Truck Drivers.
Minimum age 18, DOT physical, negative drug screen, valid driver’s license, acceptable driving history, satisfactory criminal background check, learner’s permit (Student must obtain at least three days prior to the start of class) drug testing (Drug testing, driving history and criminal background coordinated upon admission). English proficiency demonstrated through TOEFL exam if applicable.
