Qualifications of Instructors:

This course will be taught by Ivy Tech Community College accredited faculty utilizing Ivy Tech's Healthcare state-of-the-art facilities.

Course Credential Standard: Credentials other than the program/discipline standard that may appropriately qualify one to teach a specific course. Examples might include a licensure, certification, specialty coursework, etc. specific to the single course.

Professional Certification: A certificate by an external state, regional, national, or international agency that attests to significant breadth and depth of knowledge within a field of study.

Holder of a relevant Industry Certification: CCMA

Ivy Tech Faculty Standards for programs in Healthcare Specialist:

o Meets the full-time faculty discipline standard; or

o Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution; and

o Has a minimum of 2 years of directly related work experience; and

o Holds certification or licensure in a health care discipline providing care or service directly to patients.

Program Description:

The goal of the Certified Clinical Medical Assisting (CCMA) program is to prepare students to assist physicians with basic clinical tasks, such as preparing patients for examination and treatment, administering medicines, performing EKG electrocardiograms, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and other clinical tasks. Students will be prepared to work in a variety of healthcare settings, including physician’s offices, clinics, chiropractor’s offices, hospitals, outpatient facilities, and more.

51.0801 Medical/Clinical Assistant A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians, to provide medical office administrative services and perform clinical duties including patient intake and care, routine diagnostic and recording procedures, pre-examination and examination assistance, and the administration of medications and first aid. Includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology; medical terminology; medical law and ethics; patient psychology and communications; medical office procedures; and clinical diagnostic, examination, testing, and treatment procedures.
