5 years of extensive on-the-road driving experience. Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles Certified/Licensed (CDL-A license)
· Ivy Tech Faculty Standards for programs in Transportation, Supply Chain and Logistics

A qualified faculty member teaching meets the course standards through one of three routes:

· Meets the Supply Chain Management Program Standard, or

· Possesses an active Commercial Driver’s License with a minimum of two years commercial driving experience, or

· Two or more years of in-field professional employment directly related to the course objectives identified on the Course Outline of Record (COR) including working directly with CDL candidates previously with a licensed CDL training entity.

Program Description:

Students will have 160 hours of training, which prepares students to become Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders. A combination of operating observation/lab classroom and behind-the-wheel skill development. This course provides fundamental working knowledge of the varied aspects of the trucking industry. It prepares students for an entry-level position as a tractor-trailer driver with a trucking company. Students will become familiar with the industry's rules and regulations and experience hands-on driving techniques to prepare them to pass the written and practical portions of the State of Indiana's Class A CDL test.

49.0205 Truck and Bus Driver/Commercial Vehicle Operator and Instructor A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to drive trucks and buses, delivery vehicles, for-hire vehicles and other commercial vehicles, or to instruct commerical vehicle operators. Includes instruction in operating gas, diesel, or electrically-powered vehicles; loading and unloading cargo or passengers; reporting delays or accidents on the road; verifying load against shipping papers; arranging transportation for personnel; and keeping records of receipts and fares.

Prerequisites Description:

Minimum age 18, DOT physical, negative drug screen, valid driver's license, acceptable driving history, satisfactory criminal background check, learner's permit (student must obtain at least three days prior to the start of class), must pass a drug test.
English proficiency demonstrated through the TOEFL exam, if applicable.
Drug testing, driving history and criminal background coordinated upon admission.
