The course provides an introduction to the operation of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery for industrial metalworking. Participants will be introduced to the concepts of blueprint reading, interpretation of working drawings, measurements, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Students will study terminology of coordinates, cutter paths, angle cutting, and linear/circular interpolation. Related machining practices in CNC milling and latheing will be covered. The shop mathematics concepts of fractions/decimals, metrics, geometry, calculating formulas, and trigonometry will be introduced and used in project-based learning applications. Participants will receive hands-on training and demonstrations on CNC machining equipment and related tools while developing competencies in both the operation and basic programming of equipment controls and inspection of finished parts.
This class provides the opportunity to test and receive two indsutry recognized credentials through NIMS - CNC Mill Operations and CNC Lathe Operations.
