Qualifications of Instructors:

Class A Commercial Drivers Licence, current Department of Transportation Physical, three years driving or teaching experience, acceptable driving record. Course Credential Standard: Credentials other than the program/discipline standard that may appropriately qualify one to teach a specific course. Examples might include a licensure, certification, specialty coursework, etc. specific to the single course.Professional Certification: A certificate by an external state, regional, national, or international agency that attests to significant breadth and depth of knowledge within a field of study.

Program Description:

Students will have 160 hours of training, which prepares the student to become a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holder. 120 hours of Operating observation/lab classroom, 40 hours of behind the wheel skill development. This course provides a fundamental working knowledge of the varied aspects of the trucking industry and prepares students for an entry level position as a tractor-trailer driver with a trucking company. Students will become familiar with the rules and regulations governing the industry as well experiencing hands-on driving techniques designed to prepare them to successfully pass both the written and practical portions of the State of Indiana’s Class A CDL test. Note: Due to space constraints at thecampus, students must supply their owntransportation on specified days for practical driving and drive tests at the designated location: 3010 N. Apperson Way, Kokomo, IN 46901.

Includes instruction in operating gas, diesel, or electrically-powered vehicles; loading and unloading cargo or passengers; reporting delays or accidents on the road; verifying load against shipping papers; arranging transportation for personnel; and keeping records of receipts and fares.

Minimum age 18, DOT Physical, negative drug screen, valid drivers license, acceptable driving history, and English proficiency demonstrated through the TOEFL exam if applicable.
