Program Description:

A phlebotomy technician is a healthcare professional that is responsible for drawing blood from patients and preparing it for further medical testing.Phlebotomy techniciansare primarily stationed in doctor’s offices or hospitals, and will routinely work directly with patients and families. Because some patients have a fear of needles or blood, it is important for the technician to develop a sense of confidence and trust with the patient.

51.1009 Phlebotomy Technician/Phlebotomist A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians and other health care professionals, to draw blood samples from patients using a variety of intrusive procedures. Includes instruction in basic vascular anatomy and physiology, blood physiology, skin puncture techniques, venipuncture, venous specimen collection and handling, safety and sanitation procedures, and applicable standards and regulations.
