Program Description:

Our Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) program is ideal for the Certified Nursing Assistance/Aide (CNA) looking to advance her or his career. The QMA course is a minimum of 100 teaching hours (60 classroom and 40 practicum hours). HEI provides options for practicum sites in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Our program prepares individuals to administer prescribed medications; observe and report patient reactions and side effects to medication; and perform related emergency and recording duties under the direct supervision of nurses and/or physicians. Our curriculum includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology, common medications and their effects, taking vital signs, oxygen administration, medication administration and application, basic resident treatments, record-keeping, and patient observation. Individuals who successfully complete the program will be eligible to sit for the Indiana certification exam to be placed on the Indiana QMA registry. We offer job placement assistance for up to one year following successful program completion.
