Program Description:

Radiographers are highly skilled professionals qualified by education to perform x-ray procedures to assist in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. The responsibilities of a radiographer can include performing radiation safety and quality control procedures; preparing and administering contrast media; operating imaging equipment; positioning patients for procedures; evaluating radiographs for diagnostic quality; providing basic nursing and medical care; and preparing data for physician interpretation. In hospitals, radiographers can work in a radiology department, surgery, the emergency room, and at a patient's bedside using mobile equipment. Employment opportunities also exist in private offices, independent imaging centers, industry, and other imaging modalities (CT, ultrasound, MRI, etc.), commercial sales, education and management. Professional concentration courses includeradiographic positioning, principles, safety and biology, techniques, patient care and medical terminology.

51.0911 Radiologic Technology/Science - Radiographer A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians, to provide medical imaging services to patients and attending health care professionals. Includes instruction in applied anatomy and physiology, patient positioning, radiographic technique, radiation biology, safety and emergency procedures, equipment operation and maintenance, quality assurance, patient education, and medical imaging/radiologic services management.

Prerequisites Description:

Admission to BSU University; must complete 24 hours of college prerequisite courses; Math/Science and English courses with a C or higher; overall GPA of required courses have to be minimum of 2.5
