Qualifications of Instructors:
Instructors must have experience at a minimum journey- or technician-level (at least 4 years) in their area of expertise OR A minimum of 3 years experience as a certified teacher in a vocational/technical construction or maintenance-related training program. OSHA 10 instruction must be taught by an OSHA certified instructor.
Program Description:
The ICR Foundation utilizes curriculum developed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). BY Highway will utilize NCCERs Core Curriculum, which includes 72 hours of instruction that teaches the fundamentals of construction: basic safety, introduction to construction math, introduction to hand and power tools, introduction to construction drawings, basic communication, and employability skills. In addition to receiving the NCCER core certificate, students will be trained on OSHA 10, and the following NCCER Heavy Highway related modules:Orientation to the Trade (7.5 Hours) Introduces the trainees to careers, equipment, and processes used in the construction of highways and bridges.Heavy Highway Construction Safety (5 Hours)Reviews the safety hazards and precautions associated with construction of highways andbridges. It also emphasizes the importance of following safety procedures in order to prevent accidents and injuries associated with working in hazardous places/conditions.Work-Zone Safety (5 hours), ATTSA Certified Flagger Training (4 hours), and Skid-Steer Operation, Safety, and Certification (16 hrs.), in which students are introduced to heavy machinery safety and operation and are provided the opportunity to operate heavy highway equipment and become certified.

49.0202 Construction/Heavy Equipment/Earthmoving Equipment Operation A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment, such as a crawler tractors, motor graders and scrapers, shovels, rigging devices, hoists, and jacks. Includes instruction in digging, ditching, sloping, stripping, grading, and backfiling, clearing and excavating.

The BY training utilizes a nationally-recognized construction curriculum and brings in industry professionals to every class to help students develop confidence for construction careers. The training continues to highlight real world construction experience by utilizing craft instructors. BY Highway Training (BY Roads) has been developed to provide these individuals with the skills needed to thrive in a career in the highway construction markets.
