Qualifications of Instructors:
Instructors for HAZWOPER class are all current or retired FIrefighters/ HAZMAT Emergency Responders who have experience in teaching the HAZWOPER standard (29CFR1910.120) to both municipal and industrial clients. Most are state certified through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to the Technician level for Hazardous Materials.
Program Description:
Hazardous Waste Operations 24-Hour Hazardous Waste Emergency Response [Operations Level] Satisfies 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(ii) Applicability: All employees who initially respond in a defensive fashion to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances for the purpose of containing the release from safe distances, keeping the release from spreading and preventing exposure. Prerequisites: None Frequency and Duration: This training program requires 24-hours to complete and refresher training is required annually. Purpose and Overview: Safety Training Services, Inc. offers a thorough course in hazardous materials training at the first responder operations level. After attending this course the participant will: Know the basic hazard and risk assessment techniques. Know how to select and use proper personal protective equipment provided to the first responder at the operations level. Understand basic hazardous material terms. Know how to perform basic control, containment, and/or confinement operations within the capabilities of the resources and personal protective equipment available. Know how to implement basic decontamination procedures. Understand the relevant standard operating procedures and termination procedures. Training Materials: Those attending this training program will receive (1) a training manual that includes a detailed script keyed to overhead graphics, and (2) the U.S. Department of Transportations Emergency Response Guidebook. A certificate and wallet card will be awarded to the student upon successful completion of the training program.

15.0508 Hazardous Materials Management and Waste Technology/Technician A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers and other professionals engaged in identifying and disposing of hazardous materials. Includes instruction in environmental safety principles, biohazard identification, testing and sampling procedures, laboratory techniques, instrumentation calibration, hazardous waste disposal procedures and systems, safety and protection procedures, equipment maintenance, and report preparation.
