Certification in NIMS. Course Credential Standard: Credentials other than the program/discipline standard that may appropriately qualify one to teach a specific course. Examples might include a licensure, certification, specialty coursework, etc. specific to the single course.
This intense educational package is specifically designed to educate individuals and provide them hands-on training in the following industrial areas: reading and interpreting machine shop symbols, welding blueprints, working drawings used in trades and crafts, shop safety, and industrial terminology. They will receive hands-on training and perform lab exercises with general purpose hand tools, machine tooling, measurement and layout equipment, turning, milling, grinding as well as all aspects of Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine operation and setup methods, production, in-process inspection, and preventive maintenance methods similar to what the student may experience in the present day work environment. This will also include the ability to demonstrate correct response to CNC malfunctions and taking appropriate steps to recover the machine as well as interpret CNC programs to determine units of measure, positioning system, tools, spindle speeds, feed rates, canned cycles, coolant use, and axis movements. Our goal is to equip these students with the tools to successfully become National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Certified in the following areas: Machining Level 1, (Measurement, Materials & Safety)Machining Level 1, (Job Planning, Benchwork, & Layout)Machining Level 1, (CNC Turning, Operations)Machining Level 1, (CNC Milling, Operations)Upon successful completion of this program, including their (NIMS) Certifications, students will be equipped for full-time employment in this area.
All individuals interested in attending the training must score level (3) in the following WorkKeys Assessments; Locating Information, Applied Mathematics and Reading for Information.
