Qualifications of Instructors:
Healthcare Specialist Program Standard:A qualified faculty member in Healthcare Specialist meets all three of the following criteria:1. Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution; and2. Has a minimum of 2 years directly related work experience; and3. Holds certification or licensure in a health care discipline providing care or service directly to patients.HLHS 107 Program Director Standard:A qualified CNA program director meets all five of the following criteria:Page 37 of 791. Is a licensed Registered Nurse holding an unencumbered license in the state of Indiana, and2. Has a minimum of two years licensed nursing experience, of which at least one year must be in the provision of long term care services, and3. Completed application for approval as a program director on file at the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) with all required documentation, and4. Approval by the ISDH Division of Long Term Care Training Section as a program director, and5. One of the following:? Completed the required state training session including adult learning theory or? Holds a current Workplace Specialist License granted by the Indiana Department of Education in any Health Sciences.HLHS 107 Course Standard:A qualified faculty member teaching the didactic portion of CNA Preparation meets all three of the following criteria:1. Is a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse licensed and in good standing in the State of Indiana and2. Has a minimum of one year of licensed nursing experience, and3. One of the following:? Completed the required state training session including adult learning theory or? Holds a current Workplace Specialist License granted by the Indiana Department of Education in any Health Science.
Program Description:
Students in the Healthcare Specialist program are able to study a wide variety of certification options, including Dementia Care, Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technician, Certified Nursing Aide,and more. Students receive clinical hands-on practice in actual healthcare settings, with a mix of classroom and time in the lab. The Healthcare Specialist program is also where students who would like to apply for one of the selective programs get started, and get a great foundation in the healthcare industry. Students in this program receive individualized instruction and advising, and individual attention is given to students who are struggling, which make Ivy Tech a well-respected provider of healthcare workers in the community. Students who are admitted to the program will be required to pay for and submit to a criminal background check, drug testing and physical exam. Prerequisites Description:
Student must be able to read and write and comprehend the English language, do simple math, have 2 TB tests and physical on first day of class. Student must also not have felony past 5 years, and able to pass drug screen. Math and English proficiency demonstrated through the TOEFL exam
